Collections

Documents are communication summaries. A variety of document groups have been gathered together to provide information about the Palmer LTER program and ongoing work. Collections of documents also provide a window into the history of an individual, a project and a community. The Palmer LTER has two special collections illustrated here by images of their covers: a special Topical Study in Oceanography of the journal of Deep-Sea Research Part II (editor H. Ducklow, 2008, details) and a book in the Antarctic Research Series (editors: R.M. Ross, E.E. Hofmann, and L.B. Quetin, 1996 details) and Citations from these special colletions can be found in the Palmer bibliography.

Approach

The Palmer LTER bibliographic citation collection begins in 1990. As the digital record became more common, full digital documents have been added to the collection. Our original online bibliographic efforts were centralized using the Bibix software on a Unix platform working in conjunction with Nroff/Troff text editing software. In the years after 2000, with the advent of individual researcher document editing migrating to personal computers and the increase the personal bibliographic tool use, the Palmer LTER bibliography migrated to a format compatible with any software able to accept tagged ASCII format, including EndNote.
