Outreach

Education and Outreach (E/O) are central to the research and science of the Palmer Long Term Ecological Research program and the National Science Foundation. We recognize the urgent need to observe, understand and predict the behavior of our earth's ocean. Our vision for our Education and Outreach program is to inform the global community of its responsibility to appreciate the ocean environment and inspire others to follow a path of lifelong scientific learning and ocean literacy.

We connect science with education by engaging in a diverse set of projects that leverages our program goals and its unique strengths. Our E/O program incorporates the broad basic knowledge of the science along the western Antarctic peninsula with current ongoing research of our Earth's oceans.

We involve and serve undergraduates, graduate students, K - 12 teachers and students, professionals and the general public in our efforts with participating institutions. Since its inception in 1990, Palmer LTER E/O has forged partnerships and collaborations with universities, schools, science museums, aquariums, nonprofit organizations, corporations and public agencies. These collaborative partnerships are a critical component in helping us meet the challenges of deepening scientific understanding, educating the public and improving ocean literacy.
