Contingent on the availability of funds and the scientific progress of the project, NSF expects to continue support at approximately the following level: FY 2003 $710,000 FY 2004 $710,000 FY 2005 $710,000 FY 2006 $710,000 FY 2007 $710,000 This grant is awarded pursuant to the authority of the National Science Foundation Act of 1950, as amended (42 U.S.C. 1861-75) and is subject to NSF Grant General Conditions (GC-1), dated 07/02 and the following terms and conditions: This award is subject to the Antarctic Conservation Act, 16 U.S.C. 2401 ("ACA"). Unless authorized by regulation or permit, violation of the ACA may result in civil or criminal fines up to $10,000, imprisonment for up to one year, and, where appropriate, administrative sanctions up to and including debarment. The Director of the Office of Polar Programs has established Guidelines and Award Conditions for OPP Scientific Data effective in FY-99. Principal Investigators of OPP awards should make their data available to all reasonable requests. Where applicable, the Principal Investigators should submit the data collected to designated data centers as soon as possible, but no later than two (2) years after the data are collected. For continuing observations, data inventories should be submitted periodically if and when there is a significant change in location, type or frequency of such observations. Principal Investigators of OPP-funded awards are REQUIRED to submit to appropriate electronic data directories, a description of their data (i.e., metadata) resulting from OPP-funded research in the form of a Directory Interchange Format (DIF) entry. Submission of the DIF may be at any time during the tenure of the grant. At the time of submission of the Final Report to NSF, a copy of the DIF must be sent to the cognizant program official in OPP. For OPP-supported Antarctic projects, DIF submission should be to the Antarctic Master Directory, via the National Antarctic Data Coordination Center at http://www-nsidc.colorado.edu/NSF/NADCC. For OPP-supported Arctic projects, DIF submission should be to the Arctic System Science Data Coordination Center at http://arcss.colorado.edu. As a condition of this award, the grantee agrees to provide cost sharing as specified in the referenced proposal, as amended, in the amount of $210,000. No Federal funds may be used to meet the grantee's cost sharing obligation for this project. The Foundation authorizes the awardee to enter into the proposed contractual arrangements and to fund such arrangements with award funds up to the amount indicated in the approved budget. Such contractual arrangements should contain appropriate provisions consistent with Articles 8.a.3 and 9 of the NSF Grant General Conditions (GC-1)(dated 07/02) or Section 5 the FDP III General Terms and Conditions (dated 07/01/00) and any special conditions included in this award.
