Agenda (3 Aug 97) Prearchaeocimatology Group (17-20Aug) Sun, 17 Aug - Archaeoclimatology Group participants arrive - Bryson's set up Computer Laboratory Mon, 18 Aug - Archaeoclimatology Meeting Geography Department Computer Laboratory - Ellison 2610 - Bryson Model - 1-2hrs lecture - hands on working on computer with data & models (4-5hrs) - discussion of progress (1-2 hrs) Tue, 19 Aug - alternative methods of climate reconstruction (TBA) - Elias - Mutual Climatic Range method for climate reconstruction - hands on application of model, comparison with paleodata, evaluation - discussion & wrapup Wed, 20 Aug - application continue as necessary Goals of this preliminary working group effort include: 1) Working with site-specific meteorological data from all LTER sites. In particular, making use of site-specific meteorological data for input to the Archaeoclimatology model (AM). David Greenland and the Climate Committee has already done much of the required work. Our first goal will be to make sure these site-specific data are in the form needed for input to the AM and (as noted above) this effort is already proceeding. 2) Hands-on working with and becoming familiar with the AM (see web page info). 3) Checking the model output against paleo-records from the various sites and evaluating the AM. 4) Discussion of alternative models of climate reconstruction and how the LTER's might work with and test such models. 5) Preliminary synthesis with respect to "macrophysical" paleoclimate models in the context of LTER.
