Science Theme
The Science Theme for this meeting is Climate Variability and Ecological Response. Based upon previous interest in this theme throughout the Network, we expect that this CC meeting may lead to a subsequent workshop followed by an overview article and the opportunity to develop a volume in the Network Synthesis LTER series. Consequently it is hoped this advance notice will enable sites to select individuals with the time and interest in participating in an integrative and collaborative effort. Would sites please identify those individuals selected to provide presentations during the Science Theme Session. Send name and title of talk to ray@icess.ucsb.edu.
Airline Travel
Please contact Rio Grande Travel (800-778-6861) Refer to the LTER Coordinating Committee Meeting (22 Oct/Santa Barbara) trip funded by the Univ. of New Mexico. Tickets for each site representative and committee chair will be paid for by the Network Office and mailed, FedXed or otherwise arranged for you to pick up at the airport.
Ground Travel and Lodging
UCSB vans will be available to pick you up at the airport once we are provided with your arrival and departure dates/times/flt#'s from your registration information.
Arriving by air at the Santa Barbara Airport please look for the UCSB vans; these vans will have an "LTER" sign in the window. If your arrival times change enroute please call the Upham Hotel (Local phone number 962-0058) for re-scheduling to be picked up. If all else fails; the Super Shuttle phone is 683-9636 for pickup.
Also available is an Airbus service from Los Angeles airport to Santa Barbara; one-way or round trip. The roundtrip fare is ~$60 pre-paid. The phone number if you require this service is 805-964-7759. For other ground transportation requirements please check for updates on this website.
The meeting and lodging will be at the at the Upham Victorian Hotel & Garden Cottages in downtown Santa Barbara (roughly a 20min drive from SB Airport). Please call the hotel (800-727-0876) to make your own room reservation. [The Upham Hotel Fax # if needed is 805-963-2825; local # 962-0058] Rates are $90 for Wed/Thur/Sun and $130 for Fri/Sat. This rate is based on single or double occupancy, is subject to a 10% bed tax, and includes a continental breakfast. The Upham will reserve a block of rooms until the 22nd of September for the LTER/CC and, after that date rooms will be offered based on availability. Meals will be catered so please be sure to fill out the registration form carefully.
