I have finally seen it: a perfectly calm Drake passage! The crossing has been very good. There was practically no wind the first day, it picked up to ~20kn on the second day, but it never got much above that. It's been great! We wrapped up our final science activities a couple of days ago on a good note: marine mammal observers saw a sperm whale and 3 groups of beaked whales, and we heard them on our sonobuoys. Then yesterday we had to stop with sonobuoy deployments because we passed the 200 nm limit. Since then, it's mostly been packing, writing cruise reports, and other typical end-of-cruise activities. We will arrive back to Punta Arenas tomorrow morning. Even though this has been a good trip, I think we will all be happy to go home in the next few days. As the final picture, a group photo: (1st row, from left to right) Josh, John, Breck, Deb, Sarah, Bec, me, Mark, Bob, Sean, Dick, Randy, (2nd row) Andy, Scott, Jim, and Ryan. So, until next cruise... good bye! Ana
