ctd 9798pal 20nov97-18mar98 CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth) profiles in the Palmer Basin sampling grid depth(m) temperature(degC) salinity() flag Twice a week when possible. The Seabird CTD (SEACAT SBE 19-03; sn 195125-0913) was profiled free-fall from surface to near bottom from a rubber zodiac. SeaSoft software on the pc was used to collect the data. The instrument samples at a rate of 2 Hz. With a lowering rate of ~.5m/sec, there are approximately 4 samples per meter. depth-from pressure(db) in saltwater at 64.75S latitude. salinity-from conductivity and temperature using IPTS-68 The SeaSoft program datcnv produces ascii converted files in the field. Prelimanary plots were generated on site using the plotting option of the SeaSoft seasave program. At the end of field work, converted files are transfered to unix platforms for susequent processing. Seasonal coverage of Palmer Basin by sampling twice a week on a stations A through H sequence where all stations are within the 2mile safe boating limit. Data was recorded continuously during the profile so the up and down casts are recorded into the same file Surface water samples were usually taken for cholorophyll analysis. The ctd/optics zodiac (ROZE) was usually accompanied by another zodiac from which 3 to 6 water samples were taken from the water column for chlorophyll, hplc pigment and nutrient analysis. In addition a surface water sample for chlorophyll was usually taken from the ROZE. ctd, temperature, salinity ascii online lter ~lter/9798pal/ctd/ts/* Raymond C. Smith Karen S.
