<DESCRIPTION> PD91-09: Annual cruise

<DATE_RANGE> 07nov91-21nov91

<ABSTRACT> Austral spring LTER time-series cruise covering marginal ice zone 
(MIZ) region within the large scale LTER grid.  Three week cruise off the west 
coast of the Antarctic Peninsula with observations that included physics, 
optics, phytoplankton, productivity, krill, silverfish, and bird life.  
Grid south of 500-line (Renaud Island line) was heavy packice.  Lost four days 
of shiptime stuck in ice near 500.080.  Area north of 700-line (Dallman Bay 
line) ice free.

Work was done from the ship the R/V Polar Duke PD91-9.
Langdon Quetin served as chief scientist.

<SAMPLING_FREQUENCY>
Daily shipboard sampling of most variables including CTD, transmittance, 
fluorescence, spectral irradiance, phytoplankton productivity, krill 
observations.

<SITES>
Sampling West Coast of Antarctic Peninsula including near Palmer and LTER grid.
LTER grid lines 500, 600 and 700.

<SITE_DESCRIPTION>
Open ocean to heavy pack ice.  Heavy ice obstructed many stations.
