Subject: Elusive ice...
Saturday, June 19: Apparently, the ice is still too thin to allow us on it, so we are proceeding South, hoping it will get thicker. Today, the daylight hours were even shorter than yesterday. This is somewhat awe-inspiring, feeling of falling off the edge of the world... Only very few animals visible far and apart: one lone pinguin this morning, a few birds (so white they are hard to distinguish from the ice), a whale spurting in the distance, and a couple of seals. Here are a couple of pictures, which will (maybe) give you a vague feeling of what we are sailing through. Warm thoughts to all from the land of the cold! Seascape picture was taken at noon... Other one shows detail of pancake ice. Domi
